We are Award Winners!

 “Railway Museum wins Major Award!”

It has just been announced that Donegal Railway Museum have won a major Award, The National Lottery Good Causes Awards, and is the overall County Winner in the Heritage Category.

Niall McCaughan, Manager of Donegal Railway Heritage Museum stated: “We are delighted to hear today that our museum has won this major Award, which means so much to the local Community, and a recognition of the importance of our unique heritage story. Every year National Lottery run these awards and we are pleased that the transformational work that has taken place here in recent years has been recognised nationally.

Over the last few years the museum has gone through a much needed upgrade to bring it up to modern standards, and also to make it more engaging and relevant to the communities and visitors that we serve. This work has included the restoration and return of the famous steam engine “Drumboe” to the museum, new museum quality signage installed, new audio crank-up signs installed, Ireland/UK’s  first Interactive Steam Cab installed, new groundworks completed, ride-on railway installed, upgrade of museum internal spaces, new heritage map and books published, and much more.

I have to particularly thank our great staff for their work, as well as our board members, funders, Members, as well as the wider community who have supported us. It’s amazing the feedback we now get from the local community and from visitors to our attraction, which now continually receives 5 Stars on Google, and is a must-see place for any visitor to the County.” You can watch the video that supported our application for this Award at: https://youtu.be/2H33w9t5wmM
