We are National Finalists!

After the recent news that the Donegal Railway Museum won The National Lottery Good Causes Awards Heritage Category for the County, it has just been announced that the museum has won through to the National Finals.

Niall McCaughan, Manager of Donegal Railway Museum stated: “Only a few weeks ago we were delighted to win the County award in the Heritage category, but to get through to the National Finals is fantastic news. In September I will be heading to Dublin to be interviewed by a panel of Judges about the museum, and in October we will be heading to a Gala event in Nass, Co Kildare to attend the big Final!

Over the last few years the museum has gone through a much needed upgrade to bring it up to modern standards, and also to make it more engaging and relevant to the communities and visitors that we serve. Our great staff have been a big part of our success, as well as the support from our Board, funders, Members, partners and the public. The physical improvements have included the restoration and return of the famous steam engine “Drumboe”, new museum quality signage installed, new audio crank-up signs installed, Ireland/UK’s  first Interactive Steam Cab installed, new groundworks completed, ride-on railway installed, upgrade of museum internal spaces, new heritage map and books published, and much more. Our numerous 5 Stars reviews on Google, is a testament to how far we have come, making the Award Winning Museum is a must-see place to visit for any visitor to the County!”

The museum is open year round, Mon-Sat, 10am-5pm, and from April – Sep, Sundays 12noon-4pm.
