Vacancy – Reception/Visitor Services

Donegal Railway Heritage Centre is looking for a part-time Reception/visitor Services worker, funded by Pobal, for its centre. The Centre is based in Donegal Town and operates a museum with rolling stock, artefacts, shop, etc. as well as offering room rental and running events throughout the year; the centre is also an important part of the tourism offer in Donegal Town and the County. Job Title:                     Reception/Visitor Services

Hours:                          19 hours per week

Saturday 10am-4:30pm, Sunday (from April – September) 12noon – 4pm, other hours during weekdays

Wage:                           €9.80 per hour

Reporting to:             Manager

Contract Period:       April – December 2019, with possible extension if funding becomes available

Main Duties:

  • Meet and greet guests
  • Deal with visitor queries
  • Shop sales and managing merchandise
  • Cash handling including checking float at the beginning and the end of the day and recording
  • Promote venue and give tour of facility
  • General computer work
  • Upkeep of Membership database and taking Membership payments
  • Answer telephone calls and passing on messages
  • Ensure displays and exhibitions are presented clean, tidy and in good order
  • Responsible for keeping public areas presentable at all times
  • Log visitor numbers and record daily monies received
  • Opening & closing building (when required)
  • Assist with events & marketing
  • Provide Cover for other staff members as required


Applicant Requirements:

  • Computer experience
  • Experience of working with the public
  • Experience of cash handling (not essential)
  • Friendly personality and enjoy working with the public
