Niall To Leave Donegal Railway For New Post

Big News

I am sad to say that after six great years managing the Donegal Railway Museum, I am moving on to a new position. It’s been a career highlight for me, working with our great Board, staff Members and the public. We have taken our museum to new heights, culminating in winning the top heritage attraction in the County and one of the top five in Ireland. There are so many highlights over my time at the Museum which in many ways has come its own journey. including restoring and bringing back to the museum the famous steam engine Drumboe, completely upgrading the museum, installing new ground-breaking interactive railway installations, increasing footfall, bringing the museum into profit, rebranding the museum, and much more culminating in the Museum winning a major regional and national award!
The Museum is now as it should be, a jewel in the Donegal tourism offer, and more importantly, a bacon for those who want to celebrate the unique railways that once operated across the North West and very much part of Donegal’s story.
Although I am moving to a new tourism role in Inishowen, closer to home, I won’t be cutting all ties. I hope to still be involved in the background, supporting this unique jewel in south Donegal which celebrates our unique railway heritage. It has been an absolute pleasure and a real privilege working in this organisation, and I would like to thank everyone for their support over the years.
